|Carter and Marie Maxwell opened So South Haven, Inc. almost a decade
ago. As our three daughters were heading out on their own,
Carter agreed to open a quilt shop, not fully realizing how much time that
would involve and just how much our lives would change.
First we rented a shop for two years and then when an old farmhouse by
the Interstate went into foreclosure, we knew we had found
our "forever" home. I saw potential and possibilities, while Carter saw
construction and renovation. Together we designed the restoration
paying homage to its history as a grist mill in the 1800's. A large front porch
was added and guests are always welcome to sit a while.
Carter painted barn quilt squares to decorate the porch.
Inside the shop we designed the lighting to be clear, bright and true to color.
Our reps tell us it is the best! A relaxed friendly atmosphere of
encouragement is always present. We have a heart for helping beginners
and love questions. We want people to enjoy quilting as much as
Over the years, our customers have come to depend on us to coordinate
their quilts. Color and timeless designs are our specialty. I am very
blessed to have a job where I can use my degree in Art. As the years
passed, Sma Farm Pattern Company was born. Sma Farm, which
means Little Farm in Swedish is also the name of our farmstead. We hope
you will stop by soon and see what is new!
